1. Birthday Card MUDA We have got to find a better way to do this! When I get back from lunch guess what is on my desk… the three birthday cards #^&#@! :( :( :( During the day several people come up and ask me “Have you signed these birthday cards???” (more muda of time) Today I receive three birthday cards to sign. I sign them. There is not a routing slip. I analyze or go around asking people if they have signed the cards (muda of time). There are 24 possible signers. At the plant we have a tradition of celebrating the salaried employees birthdays once a month. We get and sign birthdays cards for them. 2. CONSTRAINT MANAGEMENT IDENTIFY(find problem)-The current system for signing salaried employee birthday cards creates a lot of muda of time. EXPLOIT-define cause(s) and cure(s) CAUSES-No routing slip (who has\hasn’t signed) -Sometimes cards get stuck in peoples in box (it will soon be time for the birthday celebration and we don’t know where the cards are). This creates muda for Human Resources-now they have to first find the cards and then they have to personally walk the cards around and get signatures. CURES-Change system. 1. Cards stay and are signed at the front desk. 2. Keep a checklist of who has\hasn’t signed. 3. Use phone mail to notify all people to come and sign the cards.
