WP3: Descriptors for field evaluation agreed on (22.09.2007) Obligatory: • - Days to heading [Date of heading, days from sowing calculated by the database], • Days to maturity [Date of haturity, days from sowing calculated by the database], • Crop height [cm], • - Lodging, • - Panicle shape, • - Occurrence of diseases (only if occur by natural infection), • (Mathias Herrmann will provide observation methodology), • - Colour of lemma, • - Hull content (done by partners with dehulling equipment (P2, P3), • - Yield [g/plot: yield calculations from plot size by the database], • - Thousand kernel weight ([g 100-kernel samples in triplicate manually), • - Test weight.

WP3: Descriptors for field evaluation - continued Optional: - Emergence (number of emerged plants: one meter in two neighbouring rows per plot) - Number of fertile tillers (one meter in two neighbouring rows per plot) - Number of seeds per panicle (determined on panicles in one meter of two neighbouring rows)

WP4: Descriptors for field evaluation agreed on (22.09.2007) • - Days to heading [Date of heading, days from sowing calculated by the database], • - Number of panicles (one meter in two neighbouring rows per plot) • - Crop height [cm from ground to upper edge of panicles] • Panicle shape • Panicle length [cm] • Infection of panicles with Fusarium score • (Methodology provided by Mathias: 1: no symptoms – 9: severe symptoms in all spikelets) • - Score of other diseases (assessment key of James 1971) • - Lodging before harvest should be recorded and avoided • - Thousand kernel weight ([g 100-kernel samples in triplicate manually), • - Test weight • - Lemma color • Percentange of Fusarium infected kernels: 1 = healthy, 2= with grey tips, 3= damaged (small, thin, discolored) • - Fusarium infection of seeds • - hull content of standards (inoculated / non inoculated)

  4. WP9: Descriptors for field evaluation agreed on (22.09.2007) - Visual score of cold damage - Survival (count plants before and after winter)
