  1. POST CLINICAL JOURNAL EXPECTATIONS & CONFERENCE Please refer to the corresponding clinical week. Complete all the discussion questions prior to post conference the Monday after your clinical week. Leave your completed journals for grading. Late submissions are subject to point deductions.

Weekly Journal Expectations • Journal Expectations ***This entry should appear for every clinical day!! • Unit Name • Date & arrival time • Full name and title of assigned staff member • Points are awarded for what you observed • Departure time • I will sign off on your journal before you get on the bus • Downtime Questions – ***What you can ask the staff if time permits • Why do you like about your job? • What is the best moment that you can remember about your career? • What do you like least about your job? • How many years of education are required? • Which school(s) do you recommend? • Are there many advancement opportunities?

  3. Post Clinical ConferenceWeek # 1 Post clinical conferences are held at the conclusion of learning activities • It is a time of discussion, sharing experiences and emotions, peer support and critique, looking over the day and analyzing experiences (Gaberson & Oermann, 1999)

Answer all of the following questions in your journal---BE prepared to share your thoughts with the class- Use complete sentences and/ paragraphs when answering • What does this training site/ specific unit do for their patients? • Describe any procedures/ diseases/ conditions or anomalies that you observed in your area. • Please provide 5 new vocabulary words with their definition which are directly connected to this particular clinical unit or/ training sites • The main thing I will remember about this training site/ specific unit is: • Complete this statement: “My experience in _______________was ________________.”

Week #2 Journal Entry • Make sure you have journal entries for 4 days last week prior to submitting your journal for a weekly grade YOU MUST HAVE AN ENTRY FOR ALL ABSENT DAY OR YOU WILL LOSE POINTS Answer all of the following questions in your journal---BE prepared to share your thoughts with the class- Use complete sentences and/ paragraphs when answering • Please provide 5( you must have 5 for full credit) new vocabulary words with their definition which are directly connected to this particular clinical unit or/ training sites. • Were HIPAA and standard infection precautions followed? How? Please list at least 3 examples or each----- If not, how could the situation be corrected? • What manual skills were you able to perform if any or did you observe on this rotation? Complete this statement: “ I ( would be– would not be) interested in a health career in this area because_____________________________________________________.”

  9. Week #3 Questions • Please provide 5 new vocabulary words with their definition which are directly connected to this particular clinical unit or/ training sites. Please give complete definition or explanation for full credit. • Describe in detail at least one disease/ medical condition that you observed in your area. List signs, symptoms, potential treatments, prognosis(disease outcome). • Name one healthcare professional that works on this specific unit (example-RN, Radiology tech) and describe the type of education ( degree) and/ or certification required to work in this area. If a certification is required– how often must it be renewed. 4. Describe at least one positive and one negative experience that you had during this observation.
