  2. Renovation of the heart “His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises,

  3. Renovation of the heart so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.

  4. Renovation of the heart For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love.

  5. Renovation of the heart For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins.

  6. Renovation of the heart Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to confirm your calling and election, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall. For in this way there will be richly provided for you an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” ~2 Peter 1:3-11

  7. Pursuing Spiritual Health Spiritual health is a vibrant relationship with God characterized by utter dependence on him, spiritual fruitfulness, prayer, love, obedience, and joy.

  8. Pursuing Spiritual Health “You are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness and into his marvelous light.” (1 Peter 2:9)

  10. Pursuing Spiritual Health Divine Power  New Source of life • Gives us everything we need for life and godliness. • Utter dependence on God • Comes from knowing God • Allows us to fellowship with his divine nature.

  11. Pursuing Spiritual Health Divine Practice  New Standard of living. • Supplement your faith with: • Virtue – Filled with moral excellence, goodness. • Knowledge – to have an accurate understanding of something. • To have an intimate relationship with someone.

  12. Pursuing Spiritual Health Divine Practice  New Standard of living. • Supplement your faith with: • Self-control – Mastery over one’s self and desires. • Steadfastness – Endurance, perseverance, persistence. • Godliness – Living according to the character of Jesus.

  13. Pursuing Spiritual Health Divine Practice  New Standard of living. • Supplement your faith with: • Brotherly affection – Love for the brethren. • Love – Self-sacrifice for the good of another. • This is effective and fruitful faith.

  14. Pursuing Spiritual Health Divine Perspective  New Sight for blind eyes. • Spiritual blindness comes from forgetting the gospel. • Spiritual health will result from: • Remembering who you are in Christ. • Practicing these qualities.

  15. Pursuing Spiritual Health Take Away – what does this look like? • Divine Priorities to Stir us up by way of reminder. • Know God • Live by faith • Remember the Gospel • Practice godly priorities

  16. Pursuing Spiritual Health The gospel says • You and I were created for a relationship with God. • Our sin separated us from that relationship. • There is nothing that we can do to reconcile this relationship on our own.

  17. Pursuing Spiritual Health The gospel says • Jesus died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sin. • Jesus rose from the dead that we might have life, now and eternally. • Jesus offers eternal life (or a reconciled relationship) to those who will repent of their sin by placing faith in Jesus Christ.
