  2. H.P.E courses for year 11? VET Certificate Courses • Certificate II Sport and Rec. – Coaching • Certificate II Sport and Rec. – Outdoor Recreation. General Courses • Physical Education Studies • Health Education Studies Pathways: TAFE, traineeships, apprenticeships and employment pathway.

  3. Organisation of Courses • Each General course has 4 units. • Units 1 and 2 are taken in Year 11. • Units 3 and 4 are taken in Year 12. • Certificate Courses • Certificate I completed during Year 11 • Certificate II completed during Year 12

  4. Year 11 General Courses • Courses in Health and Physical Education focus on the development of knowledge, understanding and skills which support students to be resilient and take actions to promote their health and physical activity participation.

  5. Yr 11 Physical Education Studies • Physical Education Studies The Physical Education courses promote the physical, social and emotional growth of students. The General course emphasises understanding and improving performance in physical activities. This course would be particularly useful for students who see their future in occupations that deal with the body and sport. Eg; Fitness, Sports medicine, Physiotherapy, Sport psychology, PE teaching

  6. Yr 11 Physical Education Studies • Physical Education Studies Content: • Developing physical skills and tactics • Motor learning and coaching • Functional anatomy • Biomechanics • Exercise physiology • Sports psychology

Year 11 Health Studies Health Education Studies (General) • develops the knowledge, understanding and skills necessary to promote an understanding of the importance of personal and community action in promoting health. • focuses on factors influencing personal health and frameworks for health promotion action. • is particularly useful for students who see their future in areas like health promotion, health services, nursing etc

Year 11 Health Studies • Health Studies Content: • Holistic health – What is health? • Lifestyle factors affecting health • Personal risk assessment • Action plans for personal health • Health facilities and services • Impact of beliefs, attitudes and values on health • Self management and decision making skills • Interpersonal and communication skills • Health inquiry and investigation

Year 11 Sports Coaching Sports Coaching:- • Reflects the role of individuals who apply the skills and knowledge to be competent in delivering a basic instruction session for a sport. • Is a Certificate VET (Vocational Education Training) course, which on success, provides students with a Nationally Recognised Certification. • Consists of 3 practical sessions per week and 1 theoretical session • Focuses on instilling the basic industry standards required to participate, work, and prepare for further education within the Sport and Recreation industry.

Year 11 Sports Coaching • Content: • First Aid skill and knowledge • Developing industry Work Health and Safety knowledge • Working within the sport and recreation environment • Assisting in conducting sessions in sport and recreation environments • Providing equipment for sport and recreation activities • Developing industry knowledge of the sport and recreation industry • Basketball • Australian Football • Athletics • Tennis • Netball • Soccer

  11. Year 11 Outdoor Recreation • Outdoor Recreation is experiential learning in, for, or about the outdoors. Broadly, Outdoor Recreation refers to a range of organized activities that take place in a variety of ways predominantly, but not exclusively in outdoor environments. • Outdoor Recreation is a Certificate VET (Vocational Education Training) course, which on success, provides students with a Nationally Recognised Certification. • Outdoor Recreation is coupled with both the practical outdoor adventure type education (doing), as well as theoretical training components (learning and planning). • Outdoor Recreation focuses on instilling the basic industry standards required to participate, work, and prepare for further education within the Outdoor Recreation industry.

Year 11 Outdoor Recreation • Content: • First Aid skill and knowledge • Developing industry Occupational Health and Safety knowledge • Working within the sport and recreation environment • Minimum impact techniques and standards • Assisting in conducting sessions in outdoor recreation environments • Providing equipment for outdoor recreation activities • Developing industry knowledge of the outdoor recreation industry • Emergency Response and Search Rescue • Snorkelling • Surfing • Mountain Biking • Overnight Camping (3 camps over 2 years) • Bushwalking • Navigation • Water Rescues • Abseiling and Climbing

Which course is right for you? • If you have demonstrated a positive attitude and regular participation in Physical and Health education classes over the past 3 years then any of the courses offered could be for you. Read carefully the course descriptions above, think carefully about your future direction and if you have any questions talk to any of your friendly HPE teachers.
