  1. COMPLETE THE DO NOW SILENTLY, INDEPENDENTLY, & IMMEDIATELY Do-Now Solve the following equations: 1). 9Y = 272). B + 25 = 30 3). X – 16 = 10 4). A/3 = 21 5). 4X = 60 6). Z + 34 = 60 HERO PROBLEM: 14Y + 14 = 140

  2. Congratulations! Shout-Outs for Penn State Penn State beat Penn on the Unit Test by 5 percentage points!!! Outstanding Performers: Miss Fabulous scores the highest in either section with a 99! Miss Awesome scores the second highest with 95 We had an average 11% improvement in test scores in all eleven skill areas from our first test on 9/19

  3. Congratulations! Shout-Outs for Penn Outstanding Performers: Ryan and Faith score a 94 Max F, Max T, and Ethan Score in the high 80s Tomorrow I will wear that loathsome and wretched red sox hat.

  4. Congratulations! Food for Thought From one student survey in the Penn Class: Question:What would you like to see less of? Answer: I would like to see less goofing around so we can have more time to work.

  5. Congratulations! More Food for Thought Penn outscored Penn State by 5% on our first quizzes. On this test it was 5.5% under Penn State Penn State’s scores went up 11% from the 9/19 test to the Unit Test Penn’s scores WENT DOWN 3.5%.... Penn State scored above an 80 in 7 of 11 skill areas. Penn scored an 80 in only 2 of 11 areas..

  6. Copy all items in red in your notes Objective & EU OBJECTIVE: SWBAT solve two step equations by using inverse operations to isolate the variable. Essential Understanding: We do two-step equations the same way we do one step: identify the operation, use the inverse operations to isolate it. WHEN FINISHED SIT IN ACADEMIC POSTURE!

  7. Silently think about the answer & jot down your ideas Thinking Question Timer How does math fit into the career you intend to have after college? WHEN FINISHED SIT IN ACADEMIC POSTURE!

  8. Work Silently & Independently; silent hands for questions/to volunteer Two Step Equations • Two step equations are those which have two operations in them • We solve them the same way: identify the operation, do the reverse • ALWAYS do addition and subtraction before multiplication/division. Reverse PEMDAS…It’s much easier. The only exception would be if you have to distribute first (we’ll see this later)

  9. Work Silently & Independently; silent hands for questions/to volunteer How we write them I’ve been very particular about how we format our written solutions to these equations: X + 5 = 10 -5 -5 X = 5 Its going to very important in two step equations to keep your equations careful and neat!

  10. Watch me do these Examples 1). 2X + 10 = 20 2). W/3 – 5 = 15 Articulation: Articulation: Operations: Operations: Inverse: Inverse: DURING REVIEW PUT A CHECK NEXT TO A RIGHT ANSWER OR CORRECT IT!

  11. Copy all items in red in your notes Let’s Try Together Articulate and solve the following equations: 1). 2X + 8 = 32 2). B/4 + 8 = 68 3). 4V -16 = 20 4). X/5 + 15 = 45

  12. Copy all items in red in your notes Do Independently Articulate and solve the following equations: 1). 4Y - 14 = 18 2). Z/3 + 9 = 21 3). 4X + 10 = 58 4). A/9 + 9 = 90

  13. Copy all items in red in your notes Distributing
