What is Sections Congress? • Sponsored by the Regional Activities Board (RAB). • Triennial gathering of IEEE Geographic Unit leadership to • network with other Section leaders • attend training programs • develop recommendations to guide the future of the Institute • Past Sections Congresses have involved the participation of nearly 90% of the IEEE’s 324 Sections, and delegates from as many as 70 countries.

  4. Section Proposals • All Sections are eligible to submit proposals to host SC2011 • It is strongly suggested that Section proposals include a commitment to fundraising & the support of the entire Section/Chapter leadership.

  5. Site Criteria • Should have good international transportation services available; • Have a high level of local IEEE interest in and support for hosting SC 2011 • Support should come from the local Section, Chapters, and the Region as a whole. • City government, tourism bureau and/or Chamber of Commerce should indicate support for SC 2011 in their community & indicate what services they will be prepared to offer; • City should offer attractive, interesting tour & recreational opportunities, including pre- and post-Congress travel opportunities, activities for the Partners Program & for children.

  6. Hotel Criteria • Excellent and attractive overall facilities (including sleeping rooms, meeting rooms, banquet facilities and recreational facilities); • Ability to cater to international clientele; • Reasonable prices for sleeping rooms (single and double room rates must be the same); • Availability of lower-cost hotels in close proximity to primary hotel for overflow;

  7. Hotel Criteria (2) • Ability to offer at least a 700 room block per night Friday, Saturday, Sunday nights; • Ability to provide adequate meeting and function room space (minimum of two ballrooms, each able to accommodate at least 700 for meals, 12 meeting rooms able to accommodate at least 75 in theater set up and four additional rooms for convention office, storage, etc.) and block all public meeting and function rooms from Wednesday before to Wednesday after event. • Ease of transportation between hotel and airport.

  8. Suggested Dates for SC2011 The following dates are being suggested in regards to SC2011 • 23 September – 27 September • 14 October – 17 October • 21 October – 24 October

  9. Submission of Proposals • Detailed proposals should be submitted no later than 1 October 2007. • Submissions are to be sent to the Regional Activities Department, IEEE Operations Center, 445 Hoes Lane, Piscataway, NJ 08854 or sc-coordinator@ieee.org. • A final site selection will be made and approved by the Regional Activities Board not later than February 2008.
