Edge Hill University What do TASS Athletes get? • £3,500 split into the following: • £1,500 in Core Services (All Athletes) • Strength and Conditioning • Physiotherapy (Including Screening) • Mentoring (Talented Athlete Lifestyle Support) • Medical Insurance £2,000 decided by the NGB • Coaching, Equipment, Expenses, Camps and Sport Science Support

Edge Hill University Where were we? • TASS entering it’s 5th year • 13 service providers throughout the North West • 10k per year for 3 years • Commitment from the University of Manchester • Strong support for developing TASS in the North West • Manchester pre-2008 supported an average of 30 athletes • The NW pre-2008 supported an average of 60 athletes • Local Delivery to Regional Delivery

Edge Hill University Cont…………………………… • A TASS NW update was sent via the BUCS Network in July 08 • Key deliverers were contacted directly to see if they wanted to continue to be involved (HE and non-HE) • Audit • Delivery model • TASS North West Network Meeting to discuss and agree a Terms of Reference • Advertisement for a p/t TASS NW Administrator • Service Level Agreements

Edge Hill University Where are we now? • Strong Partnerships • P/t Administrator, 2 days a week – Sarah Hadlow – efficient administration and financial systems • All athletes claim from the University of Manchester • Supporting 34 Sports with 72 Athletes • 32 Mentors – HE based to Elite Athletes, 6 undertaking the TALS Qualification • The development of a TALS Qualification Centre by UCLAN and Preston College • Edge Hill developing to become a Sport Specific Site for Rugby League • Established TASS NW Network that meets quarterly with agreed ToR • Increased support for Physiotherapy, Strength and Conditioning and Lifestyle Management as TASS have National Leads for all 3 areas • Entering evaluation phase for athletes and service providers – so cannot update on KPI’s and success of the Scheme

  13. Edge Hill University Challenges along the way! • Range and number of disabled athletes (22%) • Ensuring Child Protection (31%) • Changes in processes • Athletes unable to attend information meetings • Database • Non-engagement of some athletes

Edge Hill University 2009 Onwards • External effects on TASS • UK Sport Funding Deficit – may result in more sports on TASS • Sport England Excel – talent support through NGB • Advanced Apprenticeships in Sporting Excellence (16-18year olds) • EIS – Funding for these services now goes direct to the NGB for their support services so they can choose who they can use • Extended funding to 2012 • 2009 for the NW • Improved processes for delivery – targets for delivery • Wider range of sports linked to UK Sport funding deficit • Improved access to TALS Qualification • Increase in Educational Partners
