The Client Identity Data project • The purpose of this project is to solve CFIA client identity definition, management and maintenance issues in the short, medium and long term, through the gathering and validation of business requirements, development of functional requirements and the design and development of a solution.

What is a client? • What is a client? • An entity that CFIA interacts with for the purpose of carrying out activities related to the Acts and regulations under CFIA’s responsibility. • Where is financial/legal responsibility assigned? • The entity that is responsible for the Plant, Animal, Food Product, at the time that a payment is due or a situation occurs that requires CFIA interaction.

Client Data Requirements • Clients must be identified as businesses, individuals or governments. • Clients must be identified to eliminate possibility of duplicates. • Clients must be identified as domestic or foreign. • Clients must be identified as engaging in domestic/import and/or export activities.

Domestic business clients must be identified using a unique numeric identifier that is legally accepted, within and outside of CFIA. • Foreign business clients must be identified using a unique numeric identifier that is legally accepted, within and outside of CFIA. • Domestic clients (individuals) must be identified using a unique numeric identifier that is legally accepted, within and outside of CFIA.
