Stanford English Language Proficiency Test The Standford SELP is a standards-based assessment of English language proficiency for non-native speakers of English in PreK, kinder, and grades 1st through 12th. It addresses the unique needs of English Language Learners (ELLs) by reflecting best testing practices and critical instructional standards in the areas of listening, speaking, reading, writing, and comprehension.

  3. Beginning of the Year Who needs to be tested? • New students to the state of Texas, if the Home Language Survey (HLS) indicates a language other than English, SELP testing must be initiated to determine English proficiency of students. Grade levels PK – 12th

Stanford SpanishLanguage Proficiency Test • Only new comers that qualify for bilingual services grades PreK – 5thneed to take the SSLP Standford Spanish Language Proficiency. • SSLP was created to measure the Spanish language literacy level of students in listening, speaking, reading, writing and comprehension. • SSLP helps in developing appropriate instructional plans for students enrolled in our transitional Bilingual/ESL program.

  15. Student Information • In the grid section of the student booklet, make sure students 1st-12th fill out correct information: last name, first name, DOB • In the grid section, test administrators are responsible for recording date of test and student ID number • In the grid section, test administrators need to track raw scores for each domain tested

  16. Listening Section • Prepare all materials • Hand out materials as needed • Read directions from DFA • Students k-12 respond to multiple choice questions • Score it • Every correct answer receives 1 point • Track score in the back of each student booklet

  17. Speaking Section • Prepare all materials • Test is given on an individual basis • Hand out materials as needed • Read directions from DFA • Score using rubric (listen and practice with video clip activity) • Track score in the back of the student booklet

OSP Reports System • Prepare materials: student answer documents, student roster with DOB, ID number, etc. • Log into: mysisd.net • Enter all necessary scores • View report • Once you finish entering all student data, print report • Make 1 copies of the OSP Report and placed it in student’s cum • Please see slides 21-31 for guidance

  25. Click on OLPT

  26. Click on create a new SELP/SSLP entry

  27. Select type of test SELP/SSLP Select test date Enter scores Repeat the process to enter SSLP Save Entry

  28. Click on Individual Report A scale score will be generated

  29. Non-negotiables • Administer test within10 days from first day of school • Test new students with a HLS other than English • Test in English first • Test listening and speaking (social) • If student is identified LEP administer the rest of SELP test • Administer SSLP for grades Pre-K-5th if needed • Enter information in OSP report System • Create only 1 report per student in English • Print 1 report and place it in student’s blue folder • Be positive 
