  1. ITSS ExComWT Scherer 15 Feb. 2009

  2. Critical Items • General • Expanding conference attendance (not number); especially making ITSC a true flagship conference • Expanding membership (global) and visibility; IEEE initiative • Global ITS Forum; IEEE Initiative Funding (Charlie) • Logistics • ITSC 2009: critical state; future conference chairs • Magazine; important, on track … • Society Review: June 2009; need support from all • Paper Reviews; IEEE concern over fraudulent papers

  3. IEEE ITS Public Visibility • Background: One of the programs of the Public Visibility Initiative is an electronic newsletter -- IEEE Engaging the World -- in which we highlight IEEE experts making a difference across a number of technologies around the world.  For our next newsletter on the topic of Consumer Electronics we would like to highlight an aspect of Intelligent Transportation Systems and a particular technology or application that is having world-changing impact on society.  For example, GPS-enabled cell phones for traffic tracking (as one possible storyline) -- or something along this line.   • They requested a list of experts/fields to provide as requests are made for information – could be a good chance to get more PR; Can we use our expert database?

  4. IEEE TAB Meeting • Financial Concerns: loss of 29% of endowment • Fewer (none?) new initiatives approved • Looking a cost cutting • Looking at current initiatives (e.g., magazines) • Less money for new initiatives • Conference/Other Publications • “Fake” paper published, author invited to be chair • Conference lost IEEE support • Need to make sure all papers reviewed

  5. IEEE TAB/Actions • 1 May requires first ITSS budget; June TAB approves budget, 3 July final budget changes • Set rates for membership, publications, etc. • IEEE Navigator: need to add our tags, etc.; need person to lead (Daniel?) • Conferences: Projected attendance issues – are we going to take a hit this year?

  6. IEEE NAVIGATOR Technology Navigator Proof of Concept & Pilot Version Access to the Navigator, requires: Firefox 3.0 or higher Internet Explorer 7.0 or higher To view the Navigator, use the following link: http://thoughtcap.com/ieee/ login: ieee password: ieeedemo

  7. Bottom line …. • ITSC 2009 • Conference Chairsand attendance growth • Magazine support and advertising • Society growth and visibility • Today: Short, focused presentations – give bottom line (ending at 2pm)

  8. Global Forum on Integrated Transportation Systems - ITS • Transportation systems critical, especially in global economic environment and with emphasis on infrastructure renewal • Bring world technical and implementation leaders together to share information, research, problems, ideas: technology, implementation, management, policy, etc. • Involves land, air, and sea systems, and all supporting technologies • Bring disparate global societies together involved with the comprehensive ITS environment • Begin process with core IEEE Societies; planning meeting in 2009, Forum in late 2010 • Request funding from IEEE New Initiatives • Plan for Planning meeting: who should be there, scope
