  • Usage of micro data centers closer to customers

    to reduce latency and increase bandwidth for advanced applications and services (VoD, Backup and replication etc.)

  • Real-time data encryption

    Investigate efficiency of current encryption methods, identify shortages and deficiencies, optimize and develop new encryption methods and implementations

  • Strategies for capped bandwidth limitations

    Current bandwidth caps are placing huge restrictions of cloud based services and strategies need to be devised to overcome it

  • Reuse of copper access networks close to the customer.

    Gigabit speeds below 300m from the end user.

    • Carrier grade QoS for cloud applications (Telkom)

    • Broadband Access Planning and Alternative technologies

  • VoLTE

  • LTE for cloud applications (Mobile Cloud)

  • Software Defined Networking (SDN)

    One application of SDN is the infrastructure as a service (IaaS).

    This extension means that SDN virtual networking combined with virtual compute (VMs) and virtual storage can emulate elastic resource allocation as if each such enterprise application was written like a Google or Facebookapplication.

  • Future SKA Big Data applications

    • Backbone architecture design and planning
