  8. CO • Conscientious objector (one who for religious or other valid reasons did not serve)

  9. Willie Peter • White phosphorous (a form of firepower, ignites easily and quickly)

  10. HE • High explosive

  11. LP • Long range patrol

  12. Booby-trapped 105 round • Artillery round that proved a dud or misfired, then set to explode if touched

  13. LZ • Landing zone

  14. AO • Area of operation

  15. NCO • Noncommissioned officer

  16. ARVN • Armed Republic of Vietnam or Army of the Republic of Vietnam

  17. EM club • Enlisted men’s club

  18. C-130 • A large aircraft, cargo plane

  19. VC • Vietcong

  20. AK-47 • Automatic assault rifle

  21. M-16 and M-60 • Automatic rifle and machine gun (use the same size shells)

  22. MP • Military police

  23. CID • Intelligence people

  24. Claymore • A mine

  25. NVA buildup • North Vietnamese buildup for assault

  26. LZ (Gator) • Landing zone (each had a code name for the location)
