  1. PDK Declared Distances

  2. PDK Declared Distances • FAA Order 5200.8 Runway Safety Area Program states “All Runway Safety Areas (RSA) at Federally obligated airports shall conform to the standards contained in AC 150/5300-13, Airport Design, to the extent practicable.” • Regretfully, PDK’s RSAs don’t comply.

  3. PDK Declared Distances • FAA Program Guidance Provides • Airport operators are responsible for ensuring that the airport information published in the A/FD is accurate and current. • Furthermore; • an airport operator may use declared distances to satisfy the requirement for a runway safety area off a particular runway end. This in effect would shorten the runway length available to be used for ASDA and LDA.

  4. Example of Declared Distances

  5. PDK RWYs 02R / 20L Application • RWY 02R – 6001’ • Required RSA 1000’ • Actual RSA at Departure end 410’ • Currently published Landing Distance Available (LDA) – 5411’ • RWY 20L – 5001’ • Required RSA 1000’ • Actual RSA at departure end 800’ • Currently published by NOTAM Landing Distance Available (LDA) 4801’ We are working diligently to ensure the correct information (published by NOTAM) is included in the next publication cycle. Additionally, we are aggressively pursuing the installation of an Engineered Materials Arrestor System (EMAS) to serve the departure end of RWY 20L. The pavement remains the same.
