Opening – Copy down the following quotation: “We all make choices, but in the end our choices make us.” by Ken Levine • Find and take out your instruction pages 1-6 and 9-11 and the preposition list if you want it. • Do Mastery Review Unit A, B, C • Journal 14 • Persuasive Techniques • Position – Reasons - Evidence Monday

  3. Do parts A-C – we will correct today – prior to doing parts D and E on Tuesday. • Use instruction pages to help you • Learning Target: I can edit for sentence errors, errors in punctuation and errors with case and agreement. Mastery Review

  4. Write a minimum of a page about the prompt on Halloween. • Be sure to state a clear opinion. • Be sure to explain your position Journal 14

  6. Chunk into two parts • For each part, highlight anything you could use to explain or support your position (look for 3-5 things) • Annotate on right side – position or focus of each part. • Group Discussion Article on Halloween

Review possible positions on the issue. • Discuss reasons and evidence • Groups • EVERYBODY WRITE HER/HIS OWN • Decide on one position as a group • Consider reasons – select two • What about opposing side – what would ONE of their reasons be? Put that in Counterargument • What evidence do you have? • From personal experience • From the first article Class and Group Discussion

Get Articles from me – select 4 to read – most have both sides in them in some way. • Each person read ONE and annotate it • Look specifically for things that would support your position, your reasons, or argue the counterargument. • Highlight Yellow – support for reason 1 • Highlight Pink/Orange – support reason 2 • Highlight Green/Blue – support for Counter • Make notes in your outline of any support and for what – be ready to share tomorrow. • When you finish this – you may have computer time. Read and Annotate 2nd article

  12. Due May 5 • Collage – is a compilation of pictures, devoid of white space except for a border. • The pictures must be of you involved in an organized activity, team sport, volunteer project, tutoring, mentorship, CTC, or of specialized or work related skills you can demonstrate – such as C.A.D., writing music, building sets, art, graphic design, metal/wood projects, weaving baskets underwater, etc. • The pictures are NOT of you and your friends or family hanging out, at the beach, waterskiing, snowmobiling.   13. Opening – Get into your groups from yesterday – get out articles, outline, journal. • Meet and share information • Compose argument in GoogleDrive– share with me and each other • Group Argument/Composing • Work time on Collage • Review - Test Wednesday

  14. First – go through each reason and the counterargument – share anything in your article that would support or develop it • From articles • From personal experience • Note which source it came from Group Share

Divide up argument – each person take one section • 1 Person create a google drive document • Share with me and all people in group. • Type Introduction, space down, reason 1, Space down, reason 2, space down, Counterargument • As others go into document – put your name next to part. Group Composing

  16. Compose your paragraph • Include intext citations • Introduction • Explain the issue • Perhaps talk about a good or bad personal experience that ties in with your side. • State thesis – your position and two reasons. • Reasons and Counter • Start with statement of reason • Provide evidence • Explain it • Provide evidence • Explain it • End with summing up reason and tie to position. • Do not refute counter Compose

  17. Unit 2 Test • Work time on Collage • Do Journal 13 – based on 4th article on your topic – due today or Friday. Thursday

  18. Discuss Group Argument • Journal 15 • Begin Outline for Individual Argument • Go over Unit 2 Test? Friday
