  2. What is a WebQuest • “A WebQuest is an inquiry-oriented activity in which some or all of the information that learners interact with comes from resources on the internet”

  3. Two Types of WebQuest • Short Term- • Designed to take one to three class periods. • Long Term- • Designed to take one week or longer.

  4. Short Term • The instructional goal of a short term WebQuest is knowledge acquisition and integration. • Learner deals with a significant amount of information and makes sense of it.

  5. Long Term WebQuest • The learner will have analyzed a body of knowledge deeply, and demonstrated an understanding of the material by creating something that others can respond to, on-line or off. • Learner demonstrates his/her by presenting the what they have learned.

  7. Non-Critical Attributes • Most likely to include group activities • Might include role-playing • May be interdisciplinary

  8. Introduction • Motivate the learner. Get the learner interested in the task. • Should orient the learner to what is coming.

  9. The Task • What will the learner have done by the end of the WebQuest? • What must they produce? (Product / Presentation.)

  10. Description of the Process • Clearly describes the steps • Lets the student know the steps to complete the task. • Can provide learning advice.

  11. Information Sources / Resources • List of web pages which the teachers has located that will help the student complete the task. • May include non-web resources. (Maps, books, videos etc.) • All resources may not be used by every student.

  12. Evaluation • Need to be able to measure results. • Evaluation rubrics are the most authentic assessment.

  13. Conclusion • Bring closure to the quest. • Remind students what the have learned. • Encourage further exploration.

  14. Design Steps for Teachers • Choose a topic (Curricular Based) • Identify Resources • Choose a task • Design the Evaluation • Develop the the Process • Publish the WebQuest
