  1. NCSX radial build • Modular coil build assumptions • Vessel build assumptions • FW/internal build assumptions • Unknowns NCSX Project Meeting December 18, 2002 Update Feb 7, 2003

  2. Modular coil build assumptions • Mod coils are being updated (blue numbers are current data) • Current density should improve based on preliminary data CRM

  3. VV build assumptions • Vessel tolerance different on inboard and outboard • Coils must slide over vessel during assembly • Port stub length affects outboard, top, bottom Tolerance zone inboard: ~ 1.25 inch Tolerance zone outboard: ~ 1.875 inches

  4. VV to Plasma build • Gap needed for in-vessel components and scrape-off layer (SOL) • In-vessel components include trim coils, FW /divertor panels, magnetic diagnostics, RF antennas, etc. • CDR design allowed nominal space of 2.8 in (71 mm) at trim coil location • Space could be tighter away from trim coils • RF antennas are special case, require more space

  5. Net build assumptions CRM Gap1 VV IVC SOL

  6. Unknowns • What is actual assembly clearance required? • What and where are RF antennas? • What will be radial and lateral build of new M50 coils? • Things we have not thought of

  7. Notes: • xsec changed from 4x5 to 4.35x4.65-in • clamp space can overlap, assuming staggered clamps are ok • hard to see possible interference • healing wiggles make coil very ugly

  8. 4.65 (was 5.0) 4.35 (was 4.0) ProE clamp space dimensions
