We have gathered some walk-through data that suggests that students are not doing enough reading or writing on their own

Reading is not done enough by the students themselves and writing is not their own writng but rather copying what the teachers give them

  • FILMING students are not doing enough reading or writing on their own

  • Richard W and John P along with Alana Madgwick our facilitator from TEAM Solutions have been filmed

  • Two classes and four teachers have been filmed by COGNITION with a view to gathering evidence to show on LITERACY ONLINE about how the SLP operates when a class is targeted for a literacy intervention

  • Those classes and teachers are:

  • 10FTN

  • Sarah Mulcahy (English) and Margaret Sutton (Science)

  • 10SMP

  • Katie McColl(English) and Michelle Simpson (Social Studies)

FOCUS GROUP STAFF AND DEPARTMENTS


  • 9KTZ students are not doing enough reading or writing on their own

  • This was a target class

  • 2 Sublevels below norm in Term 1 at 3A

  • Approaching norm in Term 4

  • Maori students improved 3 sublevels

  • Pasifika not as much improvement

  • Overall well above Ars norm improvement for Y9


Staff survey
Staff survey students are not doing enough reading or writing on their own

  • The staff were also surveyed in Term 3 and term 4 by using the questions that we had been given under the Secondary Literacy Project

  • These will be collated and presented to all staff during Term 1
