Nickname, Region in the U.S , Capital City , Major Cities , Population • The nickname is ‘’The Land of Enchantment’’ • The region of the U.S that New Mexico is in is the Southwest. • The capital city is Santa Fe. • Some major cities are Albuquerque, Taos, and Roswell. • The population of New Mexico from the 2010 census is 2,059,179.

  4. Current Governor and State Senators • The current governor is Susana Martinez • The state senators are Martin Heinrich (Democrat) Tom Udall (Democrat)

  5. Borders and Geography • Our states borders are Texas, Colorado , Oklahoma, Utah and Arizona. • Some of the states geography include the Rocky Mountains and the Great Plains

  6. Natural Resources/farming/agriculture • Some natural resources are oil, coal, gas and copper. • Our state is good for farming grapes, chili peppers and apples.

  7. History and Additional Historical Facts • New Mexico became a state 1912. • In 1862 the battle of Glorieta was fought. • In 1948 the first atomic bomb exploded near Alamogordo.

  8. Places to Visit • People visit Los Alamos because of the warm climate, beautiful scenery and rich Spanish and Indian culture. • People visit Bradbury science museum to look at the development of nuclear energy.

Additional Facts • One fact is that the world’s largest air balloon festival takes place in Albuquerque. • Roswell is home to the museum and research center and a poplar tourist attraction. • More people are killed by lighting in New Mexico than any other state in the U.S. • Since new Mexico’s climate is so dry three of the roads are unpaved. • The largest chamber of Carlsbad caverns is more than 10 football fields long and 22 stories high. • New Mexico has the biggest capital city in the U.S.
