  2. Loretta Webb • Born April 14, 1935 in Butcher Hollow, Kentucky • Second of eight children born to Ted and Clara Webb • Born a coalminer’s Daughter, she was raised in a small shack Replica of Loretta’s childhood home

  3. Growing Up • Loretta quit school and got married to Oliver “Mooney” Lynn at the age of thirteen and moved to Washington. • At the age of eighteen Loretta had four children • Loretta loved to sing to her babies and her husband brought her a guitar on her eighteenth birthday

  4. Loretta’s Big Break • Mooney entered her in a talent contest and she won, and received an invitation to the Buck Owens show • In 1960 Zero Records offered her a recording deal and she recorded one of her own songs, “I’m a Honky Tonk Girl,” which became a big hit and led her on her singing career

  5. Influences • Loretta was eleven when the family got their first radio and she heard Molly O’Day • Kitty Wells and Patsy Cline were two of her major influences and was pleased to be signed to their producer, Owen Bradley Patsy Cline Kitty Wells Molly O’ Day

  6. Loretta and Conway Twitty • In 1971 she began a professional partnership with Conway Twitty • They had five consecutive hits between 1971 and 1975 • This includes: “After the Fire is Gone,” “Lead Me On,” and “Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man”

  8. Other Accomplishments • It took her six years to write the Autobiography, “Coal Miner’s Daughter,” and in 1976 it became a New York’s Times best seller. • The book led to the 1980 movie hit, “Coal Miner’s Daughter” which won Sissy Spacek an Oscar

  9. Number One Hits • From 1966-1970 Loretta had 13 top ten hits • Out of 13 top ten hits, Loretta had four number one hits • Including: “Don’t Come Home a Drinkin’” “Fist City,” “Woman of the World” “Coal Miner’s daughter”

Awards • 1962 - Inducted into the Grand Ole Opry • 1967 - Female Vocalist of the Year • 1972 - Female Vocalist of the Year and Female Entertainer of the Year • 1973 - Female Vocalist of the Year and Vocal Duo of the Year with Conway Twitty • 1974-75 - Vocal duo of the year with Conway Twitty • Nine CMA Awards, 12 Academy Of Country Music Awards, 26 TNN Music City Awards, One Grammy Award, Six American Music Awards, Nine Gold Albums, PLUS A star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

  11. Conclusion • In 1993 Loretta teamed up with Dolly Parton and Tammy Wynette to do the album, “Honky Tonk Angels” • Loretta owns a ranch in Hurricane Mills, TN, where tourist can come to visit
