  2. COMPANY PROFILE • The Indian railway network is one of the largest in the world under one management. Indian railways come under the jurisdiction of Ministry of Railways and are by the railway Board. • The Planning Commission sanctioned the Rail Wheel Factory Plant project in 1978 at a cost of Rs.146 Crores. Trial production commenced during 1983. Late Smt. Indira Gandhi, the then Prime Minister of India formally commissioned the plant on 15 September 1984. • Rail Wheel Factory (earlier known as Wheel and Axle Plant) is situated in Bangalore, India. • It is a state-of-the-art plant, meeting bulk of the requirement of wheels, axles and wheel sets for the Indian Railways. • Bullets trains which moves with magnetic instead of iron wheels.

PRODUCTIONDEPARTMENT • Production is the process by which raw materials and other inputs are converted into finished products and creation of value for the final product which is the wheel and axles. • Plant utilizes Railway scrap as raw material. The scrap is melted in three Electric Arc furnaces. • Wheel Manufacturing: The casting is done in graphite moulds, which are precision-machined using forming tools. • Axle Manufacturing: Axles are manufactured from billets cut from blooms supplied by reputed indigenous Steel Plants. • Wheel set Assembling :The Wheel Press Complex is capable of pressing 180 wheel sets per day. A new Wheel Assembly Complex, with a capacity to produce up to 300 wheel sets per day,

  7. MARKETING DEPARTMENT • Mr. R.K. Sinha is the Chief Material Manager, he has to supply minimum 60% of the ordered quantity. • Procedure Followed: • Purchasing raw material at economical price • Fixing ordering point • Safety stocks • Vendor selection • Proper utilization of raw materials • STRENGTHS Timely delivery and maintenance of raw materials. • WEAKNESS Monitoring the raw materials is not done regularly. • OPPORTUNITIES The capacity of the storage can be increased to store more raw materials. • THREATS Defective raw materials may affect the production.

HUMAN RESOURCE DEPARTMENT • The main business of Indian Railways is the carriages are the biggest employer since more than 16 lakhs of employees are working in Railways. • Recruitment. • Transfer/Promotion • Selection • Issue of Pass & PTO’s • Service Records • Classification of the Employees • Group A - Executive Level • Group B - Supervisory Level • Group C - Auxiliary Level • Group D - Supporting Level • STRENGTHS Training programmes are conducted in order to enhance the skills of the employees. • WEAKNESS Recruitment is restricted only through the Railway Board Exams. • OPPORTUNITIES Job safety is more and hence many will be attracted to join the company. • THREATS Pay packages of other companies.

FINANCE DEPARTMENT • FUNCTIONS • Ensures that the expenditure has been properly and fully documented and has been recorded. • The bill should be in original and in prescribed form. • Ensures that the bill has been signed by the officer’s component, signature tally with those available in the records. • STRENGTHS Funds required are provided by the central government. • WEAKNESS Restricted to government policies. • OPPORTUNITIES Union government will provide funds to meet the additional requirements of the company. • THREATS Energy consumptions are more and it causes more effect on yearly expenses.

SWOT ANALYSIS OF THE COMPANY STRENGTHS • Highly qualified executives and non executives in the management. • Well equipped chemical and metallurgical laboratories. • Satisfied and loyal customers. • The environment in RWF is very conducive to all workers. WEAKNESS • There a set of rules, each proposal has to fulfill the requirement of those rules.

OPPORTUNITIES AND THREATS OPPORTUNITIES • Competitive environment calls for improvement and increase in productivity. • Introduction of new machines to update new technology. • RWF has an opportunity to increase plant capacity as per the future. THREAT • Bullets trains which moves with magnetic instead of iron wheels. • Expenditure can be made only by the sanction from the parliament.

FINDINGS • Organization has good infrastructure facility. • Organization provides regular health check up to the employees which shows that the company is very much concerned about the employees. • Develop National language (Hindi) training is given to every employee. • Vigilance department plays a vital role. • Good motivational factors provided to employees. • Organization has fully automated machines for the production.
