    2. FEAS Measures functional emotional developmental capacities of children Measures parents’ abilities to support the above capacities through spontaneous interactions A systematic, valid and reliable observational measure Clinical, research and training purposes Based on DIR model

    3. FEAS Specifically designed to detect problems across a wide range of challenges: - regulatory disorders - developmental disorders - children from multiproblem families Validated on 4 samples: normal, regulatory disorder, PDD and multiproblem

    4. FEAS 6 age specific versions: - 7 to 9 months - 10 to 12 months - 13 to 18 months - 19 to 24 months - 25 to 35 months - 36 to 48 months

    5. FEAS Best at assessing children with: Regulatory disorders 7-24 months PDD 2-4 years Multiproblem 13-18 months Normal 7-18 months

    6. FEAS Procedures: 15 minutes to warm-up 15 minutes play (symbolic, sensory, movement; 5 minutes each) examiner facilitates interactions by coaching parents or eliciting play behaviour which were not observed directly

    7. FEAS Start with symbolic toys (developmentally appropriate) Symbolic toy examples for infants and toddlers: toy house + figures, baby, dinosaurs Symbolic toy examples for preschoolers: baby, pirate ship + knights, dressing up figures

    8. FEAS Sensory toy examples: see-through scarfs, bonbon Movement toy examples: rocking horse, ball, blanket

    9. FEAS Tape the 15 minutes play ? record and sharing Ask parents’ feelings after play ? parents’ perspectives

    10. FEAS Scoring: - score frequency (0, 1, 2 ? 0, 1-, 1, 2-, 2) - 0 = not at all or very brief 1 = present some of time, observed several times 2 = consistently present, observed many times N/O = not observed - converted score (0?2, 2?0)

    11. FEAS - 3 columns: SYM, SENS, EXAM (Note any difference between SYM and SENS) - chart “caregiver” and “child” - compared with profile form ? normal / at risk / deficient
