  2. Key words: plunder gibbet privateer Who were the real-life pirates of the Caribbean?  Learning objectives To investigate & explain the lives of 5 real-life pirates To assess the problems in documenting their lives

  3. You will each be given a curious fact about pirates. Find someone and ask your question. If they don’t know the answer, tell them. Your partner will do the same. When you have both finished, swap slips of paper and find someone new. By the end you should know 12 new facts about this time period you didn’t know before!Can you spot the ‘red herring’? starter activity

  5. Don’t be a Dodo! Make sure you present! • Study the fact sheet on your pirate. Identify using a highlighter evidence for these areas: • Birth/Death dates • Early life • Where they operated • Key crimes • What happened in end • Pirate or privateer? • Record your findings in no more than 20 words or pictures • Create a rota for who will present and who will take notes • You will have 1 minute to present each time, whilst colleagues move around taking notes • At end of task, share notes to complete table

  9.  Homework • Produce a set up ‘Top Trump’ cards on the pirates on your sheet. Create your own categories but they might include: • Size of booty • Murders • How they died • Number of crew • Years as a pirate • Size of ship • Scare factor
