  1. Is there hope for the church? • Not if we stick to unbiblical and ineffective models • God, show us new things we’ve not seen before

  2. The focus is Jesus, not church • When we make disciples, Jesus will build His church • When we bring the Kingdom of God, church happens • Structures follow life, not the other way around (‘organic’) • It’s about following Jesus (obedience), not fancy new models of church

  3. What is reformation? • A refoundation/recentering of the church on Christ and the message of his Kingdom • A rediscovery of how Jesus intended his body to function and of God’s purposes in this world and the world to come

  4. Key issues for reformation (1) • From idolatry to acknowledging Jesus Christ as the head of his church:- from programs to provenience- dissolving false mediation structures- from denominationalism to one body

  5. Key issues for reformation (2) • From religious church systems to organic, life-giving disciple-making movements- priesthood of all believers- grassroots community, worship, mission and justice- bringing Jesus where people are

  6. Key issues for reformation (3) • From a church focused on herself to a holistic Kingdom counter-culture- impact cities and regions- the presence of Jesus into every sphere of life: government, economy, media, education, sports, arts, science, technology, environment

  7. Key issues for reformation (4) • From ‘maintenance christianity’ to aligning money and resources with God’s heart and purposes- dethroning Mammon- breaking unbiblical tithing schemes- developing a generous lifestyle- towards the poor, oppressed, unreached, apostolic, communities

  8. Key issues for reformation (5) • From one-pastor structures to multiple ministry teams- hearing from God together- mutual accountability- acting with a focus to bring the Kingdom- celebrating unity in diversity

  9. Developing a Jesus-centered reformational lifestyle • Revival of the heart • Renewal of the mind • Reformation of structures

  10. Church is bigger than you think • See where God is moving, what He has prepared • Think out of the box, dare to go new ways • Think bigger than yourself, envision multiplication

  12. New expressions (2) • Postmodern/Emerging conversation • EPIC - the four buzz words:- experiential- participatory- image-driven- connected • VJ/Multi-media worship • Post-evangelical, but not post-obedience • Café/pub/lunchroom church

  13. New expressions (3) • Houses of prayer • Boilerrooms • Festivals and pilgrimage • The mobile church (nomadic lifestyle) • Cab outreach • Liquid church

  14. New expressions (4) • Virtual church • Blogging community • Podcasting • The cult of Apple • Church for porno-addicts

  15. New expressions (5) • Kids church • Youth church • Marriage transformation groups • Active leisure groups • Church among neopagans, muslims, the poor, dissidents, indigenous • Movie fellowships and other ‘special interest’ groups
