Clintonville Public SchoolsDistrict Update • Building resources available to staff • Keyword search “service learning” in district library catalog • Coordinating support from other practitioners • High school teachers – time period crunch • DPI Webinar – May ____! • Kindergarten teachers – implementation at primary level • Developing training program • Service Learning 102: A Refresher Training • Roundtable discussions • Initial Training and Year End Follow-up Session • Working on school board policy • Support regardless of grant status

Project Share • 20 minutes to fill in what you can on the Waupaca County Service Learning Project Summary • Remember…$25 stipend to all who fully complete a summary • Please give a brief summary of your project. • At this time, we only need to have the basic idea of what you and your students did. • Do not reference what you would change or do differently…not yet! • You’ll be sharing more later.

  5. Time To Reflect • Divide the circle into sections equivalent to the amount of time you spent on each part of the process.

IPARDC: The Process…A Review • Investigation • Don’t skip this step! • Planning • Get organized! • Determine all of your learning pieces! • Action • Involve others, when possible • Reflection • Not a one stop step! • Demonstration/Celebration • Showing impact on others and self • Celebrating the impact

  7. Deepening Practice • Now divide the circle again – but this time divide it how you would allocate time for your next service learning experience.

Time to Reflect • Please take about 15 minutes to review the Rubric for Continuous Improvement of the Service Learning Experience and score yourself. • Please note that each standard includes several sub-standards. You may find yourself scoring in more than one level per standard- this is fine! • And…it is OK to be novice!!!!

Standards • Meaningful Service • Actively engages participants in personally relevant activities • Link to Curriculum • Intentionally used as an instructional strategy • Assessment of learning takes place • Reflection • Multiple challenging activities are incorporated • Diversity • Promotes understanding of diversity and mutual respect • Connection to those being served

  11. Standards…continued • Youth Voice • Provides youth with a strong voice in planning, implementing, and evaluating the experience • Partnerships • Collaborative and mutually beneficial • Progress Monitoring • Ongoing process to assess quality • Duration and Intensity • Must be sufficient

Deepening Practice • Look back at the rubric. • For each score in the novice or introductory level, determine what you need to do in order to achieve experienced or advanced status. • What ideas do you already have for change and improvement? • Which areas do you feel will be hardest to improve?
