Creating the Family Library Thrifty Tools • Use an old bookshelf or bookcase. • Create shelves from baskets, boxes or crates. • Secure shelves for young children. • Find books from garage sales, Half price books, book exchanges, library sales. • Keep library books separate from your own books.

Variety is the spice of life Title/ Author/ Subject • Allow your children to decide how they will organize their books. • Help them to choose a variety of books; picture books, chapter books, comic books , magazines, etc. • Encourage your children to use the reading material around the house for their library.

  3. Be Creative with persuasion • Set some guidelines to encourage reading. After one hour of TV have an hour of reading. • Give the afternoon snack in or near the library. • Homework done in or near the library. • Use the library area to display artwork and school projects. • Keep the library cozy with fluffy pillows and favorite soft toys.
