  2. Content

  3. 1 How to create a successful display? Customers are attracted by effective combinations of color and design. • Create harmony with color. Colors used in displays must be related to one another in some way. Red, orange, yellow and their intermediate hues are warm, or advancing. They tend to excite and can be seen from a distance. Warm colors are preferable for displays in cold weather and for suggesting compactness. They tend to make the space look smaller and the merchandise look larger. Greens and blue are cool or receding colors. They tend to seem farther away than they actually are. Cool colors are preferable for summer displays and for suggesting spaciousness.

  4. 2 How to create a successful display? • Use display principles such as repetition, emphasis, balance and proportion. • Repetition: when a merchandise item is repeated in the same size, color, style, and spacing throughout a display, the display is using exact repetition. With alternate repetition the same general merchandise item is displayed, but it may display in the different colors or sizes and in different, irregular positions throughout the display. When repetition by progression is used, the same item appears throughout the display, but an apparent growth or reduction of merchandise lines and shapes is present. Displays using alternate repetition and repetition by progression are more interesting than displays using exact repetition.

  5. 3 Use display principles such as repetition, emphasis, balance and proportion. • If one wants to call attention to a particular item in a display, the principle of emphasis is employed, every display should have at least one center of emphasis, although more than one item may be singled out for emphasis. A simple device for emphasizing a particular object is a show card directing the customer’s attention to the desired object. • If all objects in a display bear a pleasing size and shape relationship to one another and to the display space available, that display has good proportion.

  6. 4 Use display principles such as repetition, emphasis, balance and proportion. • Balance is an important design principle. With formal balance both sides of a given display are identical in composition, and a line drawn through the display’s center gives two equal sides. Informal balance maintains a harmonious appearance but achieves this appearance by placing different objects on each side in relation to the center. Thus, an informal balance might consist of two small mannequins on one side of a display and a large mannequin on the other side. Informal balance is more interesting and more likely to attract attention than is formal balance.

  7. 5 How to create a successful display? • Changes displays often to attract customers’ attention.

  8. 6 How to attract customers’ attention? • Take advantage of different functions of different locations to gain attention • The fronts of aisles ( the majority of in-store displays will be placed toward the front of the store) • The ends of aisles (It is highly visible to the shopper making the turn while going form one aisle to the next. The change form the precisely arranged display shelves on both sides of the shopper to a (usually) mass display in comparatively open space is eye-catching. And no matter how many aisles shoppers skip, they are still exposed to the end-aisle displays of all the aisles that they bypass. Because of this visibility(exposure to customers), ends of aisles are considered some of the better display location within the grocery store)

  9. 7 Take advantage of different functions of different locations to gain attention • The eye-level shelves of aisles ( best locations, usually reserved for relatively small items and high-profit items.) • The top shelves. (Many shoppers are female, so many of them cannot reach the top shelves. The top shelves should display male production.) • The bottom shelves ( used for large cans and boxes or for large displays of medium-size containers.) • The entrance (By being placed at or near the entrance, a demand item can pull customers into the store.)

  10. 8 Take advantage of different functions of different locations to gain attention • The check stands (Check stands displays are used for both impulse sales and security purposes. Candy, magazines, blades and other items that customers do not have on their shopping lists- but will often buy if they see them- are usually found here because customers in checkout lines are good prospect for impulse sales. Moreover, because of their location in front of or near the checkers, these displays are often used to display merchandise that is easily stolen.)

  11. 9 How to attract customers’ attention? • Display in categories to gain attention You can put the products in order of brands, colors, materials that made the products

  12. 10 How to attract customers’ attention? • Put information card to gain attention • State the functions of travel mugs (keep water from leaking, keep water hot or cold as it is for a longer time than regular mugs) • State the promotion of buying travel mugs (the promotion you will get when you buy this mug and the promotion you will get when you use this mug in the coffee store, for example, you will save tax when you buy coffee in some coffee shops if you bring your own mug.)

  13. 11 How to make an attractive flyer? A flyer should include: • Provide pictures of product • Provide information about the product • Provide information about the size (how big it is, how tall or long it is, what is the net…) • Provide information about the brand (what brand, which company…) • Provide information about materials (what materials to make it or the ingredients….) • Provide information about functions (why you need it, what is it used for.)

  14. 12 How to make an attractive flyer? A flyer should include: • State price of the product • Provide the address of the store Tell customers in which department of the store they can find the product in the store (dairy department, bakery department…). State the location of the grocery store (where it is.)
