  2. What is a Natural Event Action Plan (NEAP)?Refresher & Update • Action and strategies to protect public health from dust generated by natural events (in Clark County, high winds) through: • Education • Outreach • Enhanced enforcement activity

Elements of the Plan • Public Outreach and Education: • High-wind event notification system (imminent or occurring) • Education and outreach programs • Medical Advisory Committee (MAC) • Air Quality Advisory Notice: • To media (radio, TV, newspapers) • To public (schools, care centers) • Fax to stationary sources, dust permit holders

Elements of the Plan (cont’d) • MAC: • Membership • Clark County physicians from the fields of pulmonology, family and general medicine, geriatrics, pediatrics, and industrial health • Purpose • Provide timely, health-related air quality information to the public, including the media, local schools, and government entities (without specific or general diagnoses) • Coordination • Inquiries are directed to the DAQEM Outreach Coordinator and/or the Clark County Public Information Office, which contacts member physicians and coordinates/facilitates responses or interviews

  5. Elements of the Plan (cont’d) • Conversion of Outreach and Educational Literature to Spanish: • NEAP briefing handout available in English and Spanish • NEAP outreach brochures available in English and Spanish • NEAP postcard mailers available in English and Spanish

  6. Steps Completed • Public Meeting on March 15, 2005: • Heard comments and answered questions from general public • Received authorization from BCC to finalize plan and address comments

  7. Steps Completed (cont’d) • Finalized plan with responses to public comments • Forwarded plan to Nevada Division of Environmental Protection on April 21, 2005 • Submitted plan to U.S. EPA for review and concurrence determination on April 21, 2005 • Plan posted on DAQEM section of Clark County Web site, www.accessclarkcounty.com
