  2. 2009 – 2010 What have we achieved? Proposed future developments Rationalising data collection: Review of core datasets Review of definitions and data collection proformas Current SSCA Computer System updated to reflect changes Use of new dataset commenced as planned on 1st January 2010 Reducing the delays in reporting: Prospective data collection commenced 1st January 2010 Production of monthly reports commenced February 2010 Creating a national database: November 2009 – all historical SSCA data submitted to ISD allowing easier management/ analysis and reporting of stroke data. Data from 2005-2010 now held centrally at ISD 7th February 2010 – monthly data submission commenced Changing the annual report Unit-specific data to be published on website Sharing of best practice

Objectives for six months ~ June – December 2009 Review and agreement of Core Dataset (01.01.10) Review of definitions/ guidelines and data collection proformas (01.01.10) Review of data collection processes/ establish prospective data collection in all centres (01.01.10) Development of project resources, e.g. promotional materials (ongoing) Update SSCA Website (ongoing) Development of Central Repository (Nov 2009 – routine monthly submission since Jan 2010) Visit to Audit Co-ordinators/ MCNs in all centres (ongoing) Update Centre Profiles (ongoing) Review of existing IT systems IT development - agree way forward and plan development of new database Update Standard Operating Procedures

  4. April – September 2010What have we achieved? Monthly Reports - presenting data/ performance against NHS QIS standards sent to all sites Commenced Carotid Intervention Pilot in two sites (April – September 2010) Evaluation and revision of Patient/ Carer Information Leaflet (Easy Access) Published 2010 National Report - 29th June 2010 – revised to include - Trend analysis of data from 2005-2009 - Case studies demonstrating use of data and improvements in practice - Submissions from Managed Clinical Networks for stroke outlining plans to improve performance and delivery of stroke care in local areas - Submissions from partner organisations, e.g. CHSS, Stroke Association Published first version of Public Summary 2010 Commenced development of new web based SSCA Computer System Meetings with all Stroke MCNs to discuss performance and plans for improvement Meetings with all Audit Coordinators

Future Plans Monthly Reports – to be made available through password protected area on website Review of all proformas/ definitions – October 2010 Carotid Intervention Pilot - Analysis of data and processes - Production of CI Pilot short report - Agreement on way forward Evaluation of Public Summary 2010 Complete development of web based SSCA Computer System Central validation of data - Validations built into SSCA Computer System - QA of submitted data centrally - Potential case note validation in all sites Annual Autumn visit to all MCNs to discuss 2010 National Report and future plans Biannual visit to Audit Coordinators

Future Plans Continued update/ development of SSCA website Continued development of additional supporting documentation, e.g. Audit Protocol, Training Resource Pack Early planning for 2011 National Report and Public Summary, to include: - Reporting against QIS standards/ trend analysis - Thrombolysis and Carotid Intervention - Case studies/ MCN contributions Collaborative projects/ data linkage/ academic publications/ posters for conferences Pre-hospital data collection Review of SIGN 118 and potential data collection from rehabilitation stroke pathway Reporting of outcomes data Planning of 2011 National Meeting
