  1. August 2014 P1 Classroom News What a fantastic start we have had in P1! The boys and girls are settling in well, having fun, growing in confidence and looking oh so smart in their grown up school uniforms! Thank you for your support getting homework up and running. Sounds will continue to come home as we learn them. Some days/weeks will be revision blocks so don’t panic if there’s not always homework. Revision of previous sounds is always helpful when there is no new sound to learn. The P1 year always sees a steady stream of runny noses. Donations of boxes of tissues to help us get through the year would be gratefully received! Thank you  Now we are into full days, snack will be eaten outside at playtime. There is only time for children to eat one small item. E.g. a banana. The use of disposable wrapping will mean children won’t have to carry a container with them once they have finished. • The ethos and life of the school as a community We will be learning the names and jobs of the different adults in school who can help us in different ways e.g. dinner servers and playground supervisors. • Curriculum areas and subjects We will be learning the sound and correct formations of a range of letters. We will be developing our understanding of how numbers represent quantities. • Interdisciplinary learning We will be exploring a range of story books demonstrating our understanding and expressing our responses to these through art, drama and music. • Opportunities for personal achievement We will continue to present our Treasure Boxes, sharing Summer Holiday experiences with our class. As we work to develop confidence and independence at school, we would ask that you please help to support all children by standing well back from the classroom windows at the beginning and end of the day. This can be distracting for some children and upsetting for others. Thank you. Monday 1st September – The Evening News photographer will be in school to take class photos for the P1 starters edition. (Sale date TBC) Monday 15th September – Holiday Monday (School Closed) Thursday 18th September – Referendum. School closed to children for voting. Staff In-service day. Finally… Please, Please, Please label EVERYTHING and check that your child has brought home their own jumper/blazer etc at the end of each day. We have already had some confusion over unnamed gym shoes, blazers, cardigans and water bottles. The start of P1 can be a very busy time. If you have any questions, news, comments or concerns, please do not hesitate to get in touch via the office, we will always try our very best to help in any way we can. Mrs Lowe, Miss Ballantine, Miss Mackay, Mrs Horne & Mrs Orr
