Historia • INM (actualmente AEMet) ya se organizó internamente como GEO Spain in 2005 para coordinar su participación en GEOSS • Theyactivelyparticipate in GEO Committees and tasks (e.g.Architecture and Data Committee and CapacityBuildingCommittee). • WehavetoseehowAEMetparticipationwillberedistributed in the new GEO structure.

EGIDA The EGIDA Methodology consolidates the EGIDA project experience for future use by defining a general methodological approach which can be adopted by national/regional S&T communities such as GEO Spain • The 7th framework program project “Coordinating Earth and Environmental cross-disciplinary projects to promote GEOSS” (EGIDA) will coordinate and cooperate with national agencies and existing research projects and will provide network methodologies. • CREAF is EGIDA partner and will facilitate the implementation of the EGIDA methodology in Spain. GEOSS – Spain could combine: Regional/National Scenario: A national project that aims to deploy a national/regional infrastructure for GEO/GEOSS to generate. National GEO Scenario: A central group that coordinates efforts on capacity building at national/regional considering relevant supranational and global initiatives.

Spain is one of the86 countries that are part of the Group on Earth Observations AEMet (the Spanish Meteorological Office) is the principal representative for GEOSS in Spain and they actively participate in GEO Committees and tasks (e.g. Architecture and Data Committee and Capacity Building Committee). Top down GEO Spain Bottom-up Dual approach The European Commission is actively funding European Research projects to develop GEOSS using innovative conceptual frameworks and technologies.

Encuesta • Las preguntas: • Do you have some need to find other Spanish organizations involved in GEOSS? • Do you thing that such contact could be simplified if there is a GEOSS-Spain group? • Do you consider that a GEOSS-Spain group will be helpful for you/your organization? • Would you be interested in joining the GEOSS-Spain group? • Do you have time to push it forward? • Las respuestas • Mainly, ~90% of the interviewees consider that GEOSS-Spain could help their organizations to find other similar organizations and strengthen relations amongst them and that also could simplify and improve their current activities and engage no-members of GEOSS. • 30% of the interviewees are interested enough to willing to invest time in the initiative.

CREAF activities so far: • Official Spanish representatives in GEOSS were contacted to explore the possibility of creating a permanent GEOSS-Spain network formed by both national administration bodies and relevant research initiatives. • CREAF prepared a questionnaire based on 5 simple questions. • 14 interviews were done so far by phone to public, private organizations and universities from 9 different European funded projects (EARLINETASOS, EuroSITES, ENVIROGRIDS, EuroGEOSS, ECOOP, GeoViQua, GFG2, HEREPLUS, and HERMIONE) • La organización de esta reunión

Objetivos • Coordinar esfuerzos entre • Agencias nacionales (principalmente AEMet) • Comunidad científica nacional • Evitar esfuerzos redundantes • Coordinar la participación en GEO Boards (los comités de antes), Components and Tasks • Asistir a productores de datos españoles a aportar su información a GEOSS. • Comunicar los beneficios de GEOSS para los usuarios y productores de datos de observación de la tierra • Disponer de un foro en español sobre temas relacionados con GEOSS (eliminar la barrera idiomática) • Articular financiación nacional y europea para proyectos GEOSS • Asistir al mantenimiento de las iniciativas actuales (sustainability)

  9. ¿Qué necesitamos? • Un documento fundacional (a charter) • Una lista de miembros fundadores (charter members) • Comunicar al GEO Secretariat nuestra existencia • Una web • CREAF puede proporcionar una web en formato “wiki” para facilitar una creación compartida de contenidos • Una lista de e-mail • CREAF puede proporcionar una lista de distribución • Un sistema de teleconferencias • GEO Sec dispone de webex / CREAF GoToMeeting

Instrumentos de coordinación • Email • Distribuir información sobre próximas reuniones GEO-GEOSS • Distribuir información sobre proyectos (de investigación y desarrollo) sobre GEOSS • Teleconferencias • Antes de las reuniones GEO para preparar la participación de los miembros • Semiregulares cada 3 meses • Web/wiki • Ganar visibilidad de nuestras actividades

Puntos importantes del documento fundacional • Reflejar los diversos tipos de miembros • “GEO principal” (AEMet) • productores de datos de observación de la tierra • investigación y desarrollo • usuarios de datos observación de la tierra • Indicar la preferencia de AEMet en la representación estatal. Dotar GEOSpain de la capacidad de nombrar representantes directamente • 2 chairs: • un representante de AEMet • un representante de I+D • Indicar la lista de objetivos i actividades iniciales
