  3. Pursuing victory with honor The AIA "Pursuing Victory With Honor" initiative will create an environment in Arizona where the student-athlete, coach, official and spectator is committed to "Pursuing Victory with Honor" and teamwork through TRUSTWORTHINESS, RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY, FAIRNESS, CARING AND CITIZENSHIP.

  4. Players, coaches, administrators, parents and spectators will: • Be polite to officials • Control outbursts • Be respectful to opponents and officials • Control spectator behavior • Structure cheers to support the team • Never use vulgar or obscene language

  5. Parent support & involvement • We would like to invite you to take a course on the NFHS web site. • The course is The Role of the Parent in Sports. • Can be found on: http://www.nfhslearn.com/electiveDetail.aspx?courseID=18000 • Or go to NFHSlearn.com and find it under classes. • It’s free to take and only takes 20 minutes. • If you complete the course and bring your certificate of training to Mr. Timbrooks then you will receive a voucher for free admission for two to any home athletic event.

  6. Degree of Risk • Parents and athletes must accept a degree of risk from participation in sports. • Medical insurance must be current and maintained throughout the season of sport. • Even though our staff is trained to teach our athletes the proper skills, there is a chance of injury while participating in athletics. We sincerely hope this does not happen, but we must warn each player, parent and guardian of the possibility of injury and even death.

Chris cANDIA– Athletic Trainer • Bachelors in Science from Cal State University – Bakersfield • Major – Athletic Training • Licensed to practice Athletic Training in the State of Arizona since 2006 • Heat Index -Acclimatization Period (5 to 7 Days) • Student must have proper nutrition and must stay hydrated. • Safety rules when practicing are strictly adhered to by the coaches and monitored by Athletic Trainer.

  8. Concussions in Sports • All coaches are trained in CPR/First Aid • All coaches trained on Concussion in Sports by NFHS • Parents can take the course as well • Athletic Trainer watching for warning signs • Communicate immediately if there is a concern

  9. Eligibility • Student/Athlete • Athletes must be passing all classes to participate. • Pending list (yellow card) • If a student is failing one or more of their classes for the first time, the student will be placed on the pending list for the next two weeks.

  10. Expectations of Athletes • By choosing to be involved in athletics at Dysart High School, you have chosen to be held to a higher standard. Our athletes are role models. • Our athletes are the face of the school. They represent the school in and out of season. • Our athletes represent our school in the community. • Integrity – Doing what is right when no one is looking. • Leave each place better than when you arrived.

  11. Attendance and Behavior • Students who have an unexcused absence will not be able to participate in the day’s practice or game. • If a student is absent from school he/she cannot participate in that day’s practice or game. • Students who are suspended out of school, in most cases, are immediately ineligible for the same number of days. • Please see packet for offenses.

  12. Parent complaints • If a parent has a complaint involving a coach, the parent must first speak with the coach to share the concern. • If the parent is not satisfied, contact should be made with the Athletic Director who will arrange for a meeting with the parent and the coach. There are new provisions this year on how those communications will take place.

  13. Pay to participate • $140/activity • $280/student cap • $400/family cap • Tax credit • Payment plans • All due to DHS Bookstore by November 18th
