History of Calcium • Used as building material since prehistoric times going back as far as 7000 to 1400 BC. • Was known as early as the first century when the ancient Romans prepared lime as calcium oxide. • The Romans built with this using calcium oxide to cement and bond stones together • Humphrey Davy named the metal Calcium because of its occurrence in calx.
