Materials Needed • 2 Regular set score sheets- or 1-double set sheet • Deciding set score sheet if match play • 2 Line-up sheets • Libero tracking sheet • Rosters (if required for the event) • Visual Scoreboard • Black or blue pen, pencils and eraser • White out tape if you are using all pen • Straight edge (ruler) for hour-glasses • A watch to enter start and end times

Beginning the Score Sheet • As soon as you have completed playing your match and it is your turn to officiate get your pens, pencils, watch, eraser and white out tape • Start the Heading and Officials section of the score sheet while you are waiting for the results of the coin toss at the captain’s meeting

LINE-UP SHEETS • Line-up sheets should be turned in 2 minutes before the first Set of the match • In the 3 minutes between sets the coach has 2 minutes and 30 seconds to decide on their line-up before it is late • When you receive the Line-up Sheets from the coaches or captains look for the following: • The floor captain-indicated by a “c” after the number • A Libero number if a Libero will be used for the Set • The Coach’s or Captain’s signature

Once a Signed LINE-UP is Received • Once the line-up is signed and received it may not be changed, unless a regular substitution is made • Look for a Libero number when the line-up is received so it may be added at this time if the coach forgot • The coach must fill out the line-up for each Set Do Not just use the 1st Set line-up for the 2nd Set

Once a Signed LINE-UP is Received • Always start entering the line-up with the Player # in box I entered into column I for that team • It does not matter if a team is serving or receivingLine-up box I = column I • Write the numbers in the left side of the box to allow for substitutions • Use Pento enter the line-ups • (Example on next slide)

  18. 2ND Referee & Scorekeeper DOUBLE CHECK that the Line-up is Entered CORRECTLY 2 4 6c 8 10 12 1 3c 5 7 9 11 • Once your line-ups are entered on the score sheet • The second referee should verify that you have written them correctly • Then the second referee takes the line-up sheets and checks the line-ups on the floor • The scorekeeper must also check the line-ups at the same time • Make sure the line-ups are entered correctly and that the correct players are in the correct positions on the floor

Ex: 2 PM = 14:00 • The Set starts at 2:14 PM. List the start time as (14:14)

Scoring the Set • Pthe number in the upper right corner of service round box for each correct server when they CONTACT the ball for service • If it is the wrong server- DO NOT P the number in the service round box. Only enter the Exit Score (Total Team Score) Do not notify the 2nd Referee until after the wrong server has contacted the ball • DO NOT Pthe service round box if the server fails to serve in the 8 seconds and a loss of rally is issued without contact of the ball • DO NOT P the service round box if a Server tosses a ball and lets it drop • DO NOT P the service round box if the last point of the game is scored on a side-out. Just enter the set point as the exit score for the next server • For the first rotation P boxes with the number 1. For the second rotation P boxes with the number 2 and so on. Note: 14 and under are allowed to toss the ball and let it drop one time per service and they are only allowed 5 seconds to serve the ball.

Small Spikers #2 serves again. You do not do anything on the score sheet, but you must visually check that #2 was the server. Small Spikers #2 serve out of bounds. At the end of #2’s service enter the EXIT SCORE- (The total team score at the end of the service) in the service round box. Small Spikers have 1 point. Now slash the loss of rally point for Big Blockers in their Points column. X GOODE, SAM SMART, JESSE QUICK, TAYLOR NOTHING BUT ACES IA 1

After they contact the ball for service P the service round box. Big Blockers #3 scores with an Ace. Slash Point 2. Big Blockers #3 serves and scores point 3 Slash point 3. #3 then commits a Foot Fault while serving. Nothing Needs to be recorded for a Foot Fault. Since the Foot Fault is the end of #3’s service enter the Exit Score of 3. Now slash the loss of rally point for Small Spikers in their Points column.   24. Scoring the Set X B SMALL SPIKERS A 14 14 BIG BLOCKERS 14 X Continue going back and forth between the two teams. TicP the service box 1 for each player. Slash all points scored. Record an exit score and a loss of rally point at the end of each player’s term of service. Scoring Tips • If a Play-over is awarded, the scorekeeper records nothing on the scoresheet • If A Mind Change occurs, (1st referee reverses a call) erase or white out any changes to the score sheet • If you have a mistake on the Pen sections and have no white out tape you may X out the mistake and write the correct information immediately following the X

  26. Scoring Tips • The Receiving team always starts the 2nd round of service boxes first because they rotate into service.   27. Scoring Tips • Make sure at the beginning of each service that you have awarded the loss of rally point. NO TWO EXIT SCORES for one team should be the same, they will have earned a loss of rally point • Big Blockers # 1 serve their first serve into the net Should the Exit Score be 19? • No, the last exit score was 19 • Side-out point 20 has been missed.   28. Tracking The Score During A Set X 14 14 B SMALL SPIKERS A BIG BLOCKERS 14 X 2 4 6c 8 10 12 3c 5 7 9 11 1 • Big Blockers’ #5 is serving. Their current score is 6. • HOW MANY POINTS HAS #5 WON ON THEIR SERVICE? • Take the previous exit score of 3 and add 1 for the loss of rally point. • The loss of rally point was point 4 • #5 has served and won points 5 & 6. • #5 served 3 times but a replay occurred. As the scorekeeper, you have to remember the Play-over. Play-overs are not recorded on the scoresheet. P P P P X 3 1 2 X

SUBSTITUTIONS • Each team gets 12 Team Substitutions • There is no limit on the number of individual substitutions • Once a player is listed in a service column, they may not substitute in any other service column, unless there is an Exceptional Substitution due to injury • More than 2 players may be in the same service column, but those players are locked into that service position • (Example on next slide)

  33. TIME OUTS • Each team gets only 2 time outs per set. No additional team time outs are ever awarded in USAV play • During time outs, check that the visual score is correct • Check that the number of substitutions matches the total team subs and that the Score at Change entries are complete • Time-outs in USAV are 30 seconds long

  34. SANCTION BOX • On the bottom left corner of the score sheet is the sanction box. This box is used to record common penalties and wrong servers

  36. IMPROPER REQUEST • IMPROPER REQUEST - It is improper to request a set interruption: An Improper Request shall be rejected by the first or second Referee • The first Improper Request will be issued without a team delay warning or penalty being assessed. Any further interruptions, in the same match will be sanctioned progressively • An Improper request shall be recorded on the score sheet and will be in effect for the whole match

Types of IMPROPER REQUESTS • A Request after the whistle for service • Request not by a Captain or Coach • Excess Time Out (request for 3rd time out) • Excess Team Sub (request 13th team sub) • Call for 1 sub and send 2 players. (1st sub is accepted, the 2nd sub is denied and an Improper Request is given) • 2nd request for a sub on the same dead ball( A team is granted a sub and then requests another sub) • Wrong Position entry. ( Ex: a player subs in position IV and then tries to enter in position III) • (Example on next slide)

  38. Recording an IMPROPER REQUEST Small Spikers asks for a Time-Out after the 1st Referee beckons for serve. They are issued an Improper Request. Small Spikers are Team A. It is Set 1 and the score is Small Spikers 6 and Big Blockers 12. A 1 6 12 • Slash the IR. • Write A in A/B Team column • Write 1 in the Set Column • Write the score of 6-12Always list the score of the team committing the Sanction first.

  39. TEAM DELAY WARNINGS • A TEAM DELAY is any action that delays the resumption of the set • A Team Delay Warning shall be recorded under the W (Warning) column in the Sanctions Section • A Team Delay will be in effect for the entire match

  40. Types of TEAM DELAY WARNINGS • Second Improper request in the match. Team delay warnings will be in effect for the whole match, not just the set • Wearing Jewelryduring warm up or the set • Late Line-up submissionTwo minutes before the first set and 30 seconds before the start of subsequent sets in the match • Failure to report to end line to start the Set • Prolonged Set interruptions- delays after a time-out • Unnecessary player delays- throwing ball into the stands, etc.

Types of TEAM DELAY WARNINGS • Delays making a Substitution(Call for a sub and they are late getting to the line because they need to remove sweats etc..) • Requesting an illegal substitution(A player not on roster, an expelled/disqualified player, a player replaced by an exceptional sub in that match) • Wrong Libero re-entry(A Libero entry after the serve, the Libero did not sit out one rally, the Libero was replaced by the wrong player) • (Example on next slide)

  42. Recording a TEAM DELAY WARNING Big Blockers are late returning from a time-out and are issued a Team Delay Warning. (The1st ref holds a hand to the wrist to indicate a Team Delay Warning.) Big Blockers are Team B.This is Set 1 and the score is Big Blockers 12 -10. B 1 12 10 • Slash the D • Write B in A/B Team column • Write 1 in the Set Column • Write the score of 12-10Always list the score of the team committing the Sanction first.

  43. TEAM DELAY PENALTIES • A TEAM DELAY PENALTY is issued for any second Team Delay or an Improper Request that happens after the first Team Delay • A Team Delay Penalty results in a loss of rally / penalty point • Once a Team Delay penalty is issued, it will be in effect for the whole match

TEAM DELAY PENALTY Issued to Big Blockers • Big Blockers are issued a Team Delay for having a player on the court with jewelry • Since it is the second violation, the1st referee holds a YELLOW CARD to the wrist to indicate a Team Delay Penalty • A YELLOW CARD indicates a Penalty Point/loss of rally • After entering information in the Sanction Box, you will have to slash and circle a Penalty Point in the running score column • (Example on next slide)

Individual Player or Team Staff PENALTIES • If a player or team staff is VERBALLY WARNEDnothing is written on the score sheet • If a player or Team Staff is given a YELLOW CARD it will be recorded in the Sanction Box and results in a loss of rally/ penalty point(The 1st Referee will hold yellow card in air and identify the player or staff member) • Once a player or team staff is issued a penalty sanction, the sanction will be in effect for the whole match • (Example on next slide)

WRONG SERVER • If the Wrong player serves the ball, DO NOT tell the 2nd Referee until after the ball has been contacted for serve • If this is the first serve of the term Do NotPlace a P in the Service round box • Enter the Exit Score • Record the Wrong Server in the Sanction Box • Make sure you give the other team a loss of rally point • (Example on next slide)
