  14. Rebuilding Houses

  15. Rebuilding Houses The PCT and World Vision are working together on this project. The site of building is pending on the investigation of the intensity of damage in the area. The PCT is responsible for negotiating with the government; World Vision is in charge of construction. The total number of houses to build is 2,500. The total cost will be $2 billion NTD. We are still short $500 million NTD. Our guiding principle is to build “away from the disaster area but not the village; away from the village but not the homeland.” We are doing our best in negotiating with the government in accordance with this principle. At present, there are four proposed sites for rebuilding: 1) Pao-san Tribe, 2) Nansalu plateau. 3) Chin-ho Plateau (these three sites are in Kao-hsiung County), and 4) Chang-chih old army base (in Ping-tong County).

  22. The Financial Report of the “8-8”(Morakot) Flooding Reconstruction Funds Note: It looks like there still is quite a bit of money left in the account. It is because we have not started spending money in the reconstruction of houses and repair of damaged churches. We have recently signed an agreement with the municipal government of Ping-tung County to build 108 houses, at the cost of $2 million TWD each, and there also are 9 churches to repair or rebuild. The total cost will be $300 million TWD. ($1 USD is about $32 TWD.) Total funds required for reconstruction: $1,108,000,000 TWD Funds already raised by the PCT: $256,765,359TWD
