  1. Mrs. Swanson’s First Grade News March 31st, 2011 Parents- Attached to this newsletter you will find a Fluency Graph. Please take a look at your child’s March reading score. On the graph you will find four bars. Let me interpret those numbers. March Score 28 words per minute= 25th percentile 53 words per minute= 50th percentile 82 words per minute= 75th percentile 111 words per minute= 90th percentile Please keep in mind this is a new curriculum and the standards are set very high. If you see consistent growth on your child’s graph that means they are making progress. That is the key!!!! Keep up the great work. ****Don’t forget about the GRASP summer program. If your child scored below the 50th percentile I would consider the reading workbook program.**** kswanson@hastings.k12.mn.us 1+1=2MATH2+2=4 Next week’s reading theme: Watch It Go Phonics: Long i -y my by -igh high sigh High Frequency Words to practice: ball never shout head should Comprehension: Identify problem and solution Grammar: Adjectives that compare-bigger, biggest Writing: Writing about not giving up Unit 6 The second half of unit six will be extremely hands on.
