  2. Who was Gino Severini? • Gino Severini was an Italian painter who was a part of the futurist art movement. • He was born in Cortona, Italy on April 7 1883. • Growing up, Severini was poor. His father worked as a junior court official and his mother was a dressmaker. Cortona, Italy

Festival in Montmartre (Carousel), 1913. • At the age of 15 Severini was expelled from school due to his stealing exam papers; after which he began working with his father. • The following year he moved to Rome with his mother—this is where he became interested in art and would often paint in his spare time. Futurism • In 1900 Gino met a painter by the name of Umberto Boccioni (he became a famous artist as well) who, along with Gino, became involved in the Futurist movement. • Futurism was an Italian art and social movement that started in the beginning of the 20th century. • It was very similar to cubism in that it split up the composition of an artwork into geometric shapes. • Futurism also had to do speed, technology, youth, and anything that differed from the norm at that time.   9. Gino Severini • Gino Severini (7 April 1883–26 February 1966), was an Italian painter and a leading member of the Futurist movement. For much of his life he divided his time between Paris and Rome. He was associated with neo-classicism and the "return to order" in the decade after the First World War. During his career he worked in a variety of media, including mosaic and fresco. He showed his work at major exhibitions, including the Rome Quadrennial, and won art prizes from major institutions.
