What is HKN? • National EECS honor society, with over 207 chapters nation wide. • Berkeley (Mu) Chapter • Mu Chapter Mission Statement: • 28 officers and over 100 active members. • One of the most active student groups on campus, as well as one of the most active HKN chapters. “Eta Kappa Nu recognizes promising EECS students and brings them together to serve the EECS community by fostering relationships between EECS students and the department and industry."

Academic HKN Student Services • Mon-Fri, in 290 Cory and 345 Soda, 10am-4pm • Free CS and EE tutoring • Archived CS and EE exams • Midterm study sessions • Peer advising sessions • CS GRE reviews • Graduate school workshops and info sessions • exams archived since 1998 • available for checkout as well as online • 5 study sessions so far this year • informal feedback about classes and profs (see picture) • 2 sessions per semester • 4 sessions in Fall divided by topic; slides available on HKN website • 3 grad school info sessions in Spring 2003 • 7 workshops in Fall 2003

Other HKN Student Services • 2 in Fall 2003, 1 so far in Spring 2004 • Tech talks • Company site visits • Tours for prospective students • Freshman recruitment • Cal Day EECS student panel and tabling • EECS career fair and info sessions • 4 visits scheduled for April 2004 • By request and on the annual Cal Day • 14 companies and nearly 700 students attended the most recent career fair in February 2004 (see picture). • 12 company info sessions so far in the 2003-2004 school year.

HKN’s Department Services • Used by the department to determine quality of professors and TAs • All results are viewable by students online (see picture) • EE and CS course evaluations • Liaison between students and faculty • New faculty interviews • - 3 interviews so far this semester • Curriculum feedback • - Undergraduate Study Committee • Outstanding GSI nominations • Faculty retreat presentation • Once a year in Spring • Last year around 150 students were surveyed and their concerns were presented

HKN’s EECS Community-Building Services • Faculty-student mixers • New Student Orientation • Promoting EECS cohesion among students • Help make new EECS students feel welcomed by answering their questions and setting up socials • EECS t-shirts and beanies • Midnight “donut runs” • Informal advising during office hours
