  1. Ratiocination Take out your rough draft, a pen and a highlighter. You will switch papers with someone in your group. Please print your name at the bottom of the paper that you are editing. Your edits and proofreading count for a grade, so please follow directions and do this correctly.

  2. Ratiocination • Circle all the first words of each sentence. No word should be used more than 3x. If it is, write the word in the blank space of their paper. • Highlight every other sentence; this shows sentence length. Look for run-ons or fragments. Place a star next to any run-on or fragment. • Place a check mark next to the “Coming of Age” moment. Was there a lesson learned by the person interviewed? • Locate all direct “quotes”, place two check marks next to each quote. There should be at least three. • Locate indirect quotes, place a smiley face next to one.

  3. Ratiocination cont….. • Place a + sign next to one example of imagery • Check for spelling, punctuation (quotation marks used properly), capitalization and transitions. Your paper should have transitions within paragraphs and introducing paragraphs. If they are not there, add them. • Lastly, read their final paragraph. Is there a distinct connection to the interviewee’s lesson made by the interviewer? If, not notate it. • Hand back the paper to the original owner and begin to work on thecorrections for your final draft which will be completed in class tomorrow!
