  1. Some Scenarios for an ISL Architecture<draft- korkea-aho-isl-scenarios-00.txt> Mari Korkea-aho

  2. Some scenarios and Implications (1/2) 1. Locate/track somebody • Where did I leave my laptop? • Where is Pluto running around? (IP-device in dog collar) Implications: • IP-device able to retrieve/receive (periodically) location information of another IP-device 2. Broadcast information to devices in a certain region • Emergency warning of snowstorm • Local site shutdown warning Implications: • IP-device can determine which IP-devices are in a certain region • (Client IP-device can decide whether to publish its existence in a certain region)

  3. Some scenarios and Implications (2/2) 3. Retrieval of location based information and service • Mobile user wants to order local taxi, find closest pizzeria • User wants to obtain regional (web) information about Helsinki Implications: • Service must be able to obtain client location • Find server providing service for the specific region/location 4. User subscribed location based services • IETF-participator wants to be notified about sights in Adelaide when walking past them Implications: • Service must obtain client location periodically and/ordetermine if it is still within the region for the service • Find server providing service for the specific region

  4. What is needed? Communicating location of an IP-device to another IP-device • IP-device can provide it or announce from where to get it • The other IP-device can request or look it up Finding IP-devices located in a certain region Important ... Finding services available for a certain location/region • virtually they can reside where ever in network Other issues: • location data formats&granularity challenging - conversion services can help • user should be in control - to whom, what accuracy, for what use
