  1. George Orwell Born in 1903 in Molinari in the British colony of India.

  2. Family • His farther Richard worked for the Opium Department of the Civil Service • His mother Ida brought him to England at the age of one.

  3. Education • At the age of five George was sent to a small school in Henley. • After this school he extended St Cyprians School on a scholarship so his parent only had to pay half of the fees. • After this he gained a scholarship to Wellington and Eton Collages

  4. Burma • After finishing his studies at Eton, having no prospect of gaining a university scholarship and his family's means being insufficient to pay his tuition, Eric joined the Indian Imperial Police in Burma. •  He resigned and returned to England in 1928 having grown to hate imperialism

  5. Orwell in Poverty • Orwell lived for several years in poverty, sometimes homeless, sometimes doing itinerant work, as he recalled in the book Down and Out in Paris and London.

  6. After the War • Orwell after the war was often known for his journalism. • According to Newsweek, Orwell "was the finest journalist of his day and the foremost architect of the English essay since Hazlitt." 

  7. The End • On the 21st of January George Orwell died • Now George Orwell is known for his books such as Animal Farm.
