From the NSF Strategic Plan “Empowering the Nation through Innovation and Discovery • The National Science Foundation (NSF) is the primary Federal agency supporting research at the frontiers of knowledge, across all fields of science and engineering (S&E) and all levels of S&E education. NSF-funded research and education projects —selected through competitive, merit-based review—have fueled many important innovations that in turn have stimulated economic growth and improved the quality of life and health for all Americans.
