Great Plains: Sioux/Cheyenne • Tepees main source of housing • Used the buffalo for food, clothing • Nomadic life: always moving around • No farming, all hunting/gathering • Northwest Coast: • Nez Perce • Mostly fished for food • Very rainy climate • Many rivers to navigate • Made totem poles to honor nature/culture • Northeast: Iroquois • Used forests to build longhouses • Great lakes for fishing • Grew the 3 sisters: corn/beans/squash • Women choose the chief • Matrilineal society • Southwest: Pueblo • Desert area, very hot • Made homes called adobe out of clay/mud • Wore less clothing because of heat • Famous for basket weaving and clay pottery • Southeast: Cherokee • Invented a game called stickball… becomes lacrosse • Relied on canoes/feet to get around • Homes called wigwams made from mud and logs
