突觸. 前突觸區 (presynaptic terminal) 內含有神經傳導物質 粒線體 及其它胞器 後突觸區 (postsynaptic terminal) 其上有神經傳導物質的受體 當前突觸端釋放出神經傳導物質之後 這些化學物質便利用擴散的方式抵達後突觸區 並且和其上的受體相互結合 此時將引發一個動作電位 使得這個訊號得以傳到下一個神經細胞上. 髓鞘質 將軸突裡面傳輸的訊息絕緣。膠質支持細胞製造髓鞘質。髓鞘質包裹著軸突並幫助電子流到軸突(就如同漏水的水管纏上膠帶就可以讓水在水管中流動一樣)。
