  1. Writing CBA Persuasive Writing Prompt

  2. I Knew You'd See It My Way? • Reasons • Repetition • Compare • Agitate & Solve • Crystal Ball • Address Objections

  3. Repetition and Reasons • These go hand and hand. you can’t have one without the other. • If you use multiple reasons to present your case… you have already repeatedly sent your message to the reader. • Reasons • Logical (Facts, research data, expert knowledge), Moral, Emotional, Financial, Legal, Respectful, Disrespectful, Efficiency reasons, etc. • http://www.ltisdschools.org/Page/17521 accomplishment of or ability to accomplish a job with a minimum expenditure of time and effort: The assembly line increased industry's efficiency.

  4. Compare • Compare your argument to another situation the reader may more easily understand, or better relate to. • Compare the effects of Hurricane Katrina to Sandy so that the population can see the severity of Sandy.

  5. Agitate & Solve • To agitate means to bother. Get the reader to see that the issue at hand is or will be a other to them as well, then offer them the solution to the problem. • If they feel something is actually a problem they are more likely to help you change it. • If its only a problem for you the reader won’t necessarily care.

  6. Crystal Ball • This is a reference to the future. • Show the reader what the future will be like if they don’t see things your way. • The Nazi Euthanasia essay we read in class did a good job of this to show all people the dangers of going to the doctor if things stayed the way they were.

  7. Address Objections • If you present your case and someone is left thinking “yeah, but…”, well, you’ve lost. • Addressing all the potential objections of at least the majority of your readers can be tough, but if you really know your subject the arguments against you should be fairly obvious.

  8. Hollywood Movies Offer Great Examples of Persuasive! • Films depicting courtrooms may not be written persuasion, but they are following a script, which is written. http://ltisdschools.org/Page/17506
