  2. History • George Lucas wanted his film Star Wars (1977) to feature special effects that has never been seen on films before. He approached Douglas Trumbull for help, but he declined and suggested Lucas his assistant, John Dykstra. Dykstra brought together a group of talented college students to make the film. • Lucas founded ILM in Marin County, CA with most of the team. ILM is a division of LucasFilm. The company expanded and made incredible movies, like the Pirates of the Caribbean series, Terminator Sequels, Harry Potter series, and many more.

  3. Achievements • ILM has developed many technical and creative innovations; it has affected current technological developments and trends. Beginning with the blue-screen photography, matte painting and model construction, development of motion control cameras, optical compositing and other advances in technology. • Since the 1980’s, ILM led the way of computer graphics with breakthrough technology with Morfing, enveloping and film input scanning. • While creating The Abyss ILM developed Photoshop, and later sold the software to Adobe.
