  2. 2005 NHDR on Gender Attitudes________________ Overarching goal: Promote gender equality through conducting a survey on gender attitudes, and launching 2005 NHDR

  3. 2005 NHDR on Gender Attitudes________________ Challenges to address: - Gender disparities in a number of important socio-economic areas (e.g. employment, education and representation in decision-making processes, mortality rate & crime rates, etc. ) - Gaps in gender information, particularly on sensitive social issues (e.g. domestic violence, drugs and HIV/AIDS, etc.)

  4. 2005 NHDR on Gender Attitudes________________ First national survey on gender attitudes aims to: • Raise awareness of gender • Improve understanding of gender attitudes • Build national capacity in conducting gender surveys • Formulate recommendations on promoting gender equality • Promote surveys on gender attitudes in CIS

  5. 2005 NHDR on Gender Attitudes________________ The expected outputs will be achieved through: • Preparatory workshop on methodology • National survey on gender attitudes • National workshop to analyse the results of the survey • NHDR in three languages (English, Azeri, and Russian) • National debate through Town Hall Meetings, media forums, parliamentary rounds, etc.

  6. 2005 NHDR on Gender Attitudes_________________ Partners: • Government counterpart – SCWI • Embassy of Norway • Gender Focal Points from UN sister-agencies: (UNICEF, UNIFEM, and UNFPA) • Independent research institutions; academia; NGOs; media

  7. 2005 NHDR on Gender Attitudes_____________________ Questions: • What kind of a survey modality should be applied to capture the various dimensions of gender attitudes? • How should we design questions to measure gender attitudes? • What guidance should be provided to potential users to ensure their capacity to interpret data on gender attitudes into policy formulation? • What are lessons learned with similar gender attitudes surveys?
