  2. The motion still must be voted into a bylaw – this is expected to occur in October 2012. Council votes to Ban Poly Bags In June 2012, Toronto City council, during a discussion to repeal the 5 cent bag charge, voted instead to ban single use plastic bags in the city of Toronto effective January 1, 2013.
