  3. Omoiyari - empathy • Hierarchy - classification of a group of people according to ability, or economic, social, or professional standing • Uchi - inside • Soto - outside • Kao - face

  6. Basic Concepts of Personal Behavior • Wa - harmony. Cardinal value of interpersonal relationships • Omoiyari - empathy. Feelings are important. Empathy is valued more than ability to be rational and practical.
