  1. Pakistan Earthquake Your task is to produce a double page spread about the 2005 Pakistan earthquake for a Key Stage 3 Geography text book. You must include the following points in your textbook - the date of the earthquake, its location and its magnitude - a map to locate the earthquake and the areas that were affected - an explanation, with diagrams, of why the earthquake happened - a description, with pictures, of the effects of the earthquake - a description of what the authorities did after the earthquake - an explanation of some the difficulties that the authorities faced - tasks that allow pupils to show they understand causes and effects of earthquakes Your work must be written clearly and in full sentences demonstrating good use of English. You must include geographical vocabulary and your finished text book page must be attractive and eye catching for children. You may use the internet to find information, photos and maps. To reach Level 7 I must reach level 6andexplain how the earthquake had immediate and longer term effects. I must include a range of questions and tasks which allow Year 8 pupils to show that they fully understand the causes and effects of earthquakes. CLIMBING THE ASSESSMENT MOUNTAINS Himalayas To reach Level 6 I must reach level 5and give a more detailed explanation of why the quake happened using annotated diagrams. I must describe how the authorities reacted to the earthquake and suggest reasons why rescue operations were difficult. I must include some questions for pupils. Andes To reach Level 5 I must reach level 4and begin to explain why the earthquake happened. I must use diagrams in my explanation. Alps To reach Level 4 I must reach Level 3 and describe what happened during the quake and how it affected people who lived there. I must include a map showing the epicentre of the quake and the areas that were affected. I must have at least one photo to illustrate the damage the earthquake caused.
